Episode 61: Addressing Stigmas Towards Mental Health & Counseling
Many individuals with mental health issues don’t receive help. People often delay seeking help or avoid it entirely due to fears of being treated differently. Stigmas, based on prejudice, ignorance, and discrimination create significant problems for those with mental health disorders. These stigmas can be obvious or subtle; but either way can lead to harm and create additional barriers for help. Not only is mental health stigmatized, but counseling and other forms of treatment are often filled with misinformation and misunderstandings that further complicate the goals of helping address mental health issues.
